United Church

First United Church

First United belongs to the United Church of Canada, formed in 1925 from Methodist, Congregational and most Presbyterian congregations. It describes itself as a welcoming, accessible Christian community of faith and fellowship serving the Owen Sound neighbourhood.

First United Church is on 21st Street West, in the north-west of the city away from the downtown churches. It is the third United Church of Canada congregation in Owen Sound, alongside Georgian Shores on 4th Avenue East and Central Westside on 10th Street West.

One service is held each Sunday morning at half past ten, in the sanctuary, and is followed by coffee. Kristal McGee is the minister. The accessible entrance and the elevator are at the back of the building, reached from the parking lot.

The congregation opens its worship by acknowledging that it meets on the ancestral and traditional territory of the Anishinaabe Nation, naming the Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi Nations and the continuing presence and treaty rights of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
