Georgian Shores United Church
Georgian Shores belongs to the United Church of Canada, the denomination formed in 1925 from Methodist, Congregational and most Presbyterian congregations. It displays the Affirm United logo, the mark of a congregation that has publicly declared itself affirming of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Georgian Shores United Church worships in the Gothic Revival church on the south-east corner of Salvation Corners, built in 1886 for the Division Street Presbyterian congregation and one of the four limestone churches at the crossing.
The congregation itself is recent. Division Street United and Knox United amalgamated on 1 January 2012 to form Georgian Shores, taking the Division Street building; Knox’s former church a block away has since become the Harmony Centre, an arts and community venue. Both of the amalgamating congregations had begun as Presbyterian churches before the union of 1925.
One service is held each Sunday, at half past ten, and it is posted afterwards to the congregation’s YouTube channel. The church hosts a long-running series of noon-hour concerts.
