Church of Christ Owen Sound
Churches of Christ take the New Testament as their only rule for faith, worship and church order, and decline to subscribe to any creed. They teach that a believer is baptized by immersion for the forgiveness of sins, break bread every Lord's Day, and in most congregations sing without instruments. Each congregation is independent, overseen by its own elders.
The Church of Christ meets on 10th Avenue East, on the east side of the city. It is a congregation of the Churches of Christ, the branch of the nineteenth-century Restoration Movement that kept to unaccompanied singing and to a strict reading of what the New Testament authorizes in worship.
The congregation gathers four times a week. Worship is at ten on Sunday morning, with the Lord’s Supper shared as it is every week, and Sunday school follows at twenty past eleven. There is an evening service at six and a Bible study on Thursday at seven, both of which are also carried on Zoom. The congregation’s own invitation is simply to come and study with them.
Churches of Christ have no denominational structure above the congregation: each is independent, overseen by its own elders, and cooperates with others only as it chooses.
